Talented artist Xuebing Du aims to create an almost surreal effect with her photography: a strong yet delicate luminescence, inspired by the use of light and shade in Renaissance paintings________.
“I LIKE TO CAPTURE ROSES IN FULL BLOOM, OPENING THEMSELVES TO THE SUN. PETALS LIE IN FULL DAYLIGHT, WITH SOFT, SILKY AND SOOTHING COLOURS______.”
“TO ME, FLOWERS ARE A CELEBRATION OF LOVE AND BEAUTY. I WANT MY FLOWERS TO BE GORGEOUS, FEMININE AND OTHERWORLDLY______.”
Xuebing Du: “To me flowers are a celebration of love and beauty. I want them to be gorgeous, feminine, and otherworldly. I like to capture roses in full bloom, opening themselves to the sun. Petals lie in full daylight, with soft, silky and soothing colours. I concentrate on representing organic forms and smooth textures. Light is essential while creating this body of work: the balance of light and shade; the transition between light and dark. I want to create an effect that is almost surreal, with a strong yet delicate luminescence, inspired by the use of light in Renaissance paintings. I hope to bring pleasure to my viewers.”
She loves to capture everything she sees in nature, from the flow of water to lush green plants, like the wilds of a jungle. “I try to record the motion of nature to help people feel closer to what’s around them. When processing my images I like to use inspiration from music and art to help create texture, emotion and atmosphere in my work. What I’m trying to communicate with my shots is a close-up look at this beautiful miniature natural world, somewhere between reality and an alien landscape.”
The photographer explains: “I want to capture characters in florals, the gentleness, softness and often times the toughness. I try to convey my vision as I see in each of them: the elegance of calla lily, the romance of roses and the wildness of morning glories that grow on the walls. I focus on the details of each floral, letting the colours and textures come to life________.”
